30 homeless youth to celebrate a crowning achievement this Wednesday

Graduation is a time for reflection and pause and a glimpse at the future. But, for homeless youth it also signifies a remarkable achievement. Why? Because when you don’t sleep in the same bed every night it tends to detract from your focus and commitment—concepts that are vital to completing a high school education.

That’s why YouthLink is proud to host a Cap & Gown graduation ceremony this Wednesday, June 9, to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of more than 30 young people who have earned their high school diploma or completed their G.E.D. this spring with help from YouthLink’s educational services. About half of the graduates are expected to attend the ceremony, which will be followed by a reception and refreshments.

Jasmine Eberle, a homeless youth, will speak at this year’s graduation ceremony—as will Lee Hutton, attorney at Lommen Abdo and former University of Minnesota football and track letter winner.

The ceremony will take place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Look for photos and video from the event later this week.
